DC Going Out Guide

Happy Hour:

The Front Page (Dupont)
If you like the Young Professional + sports bar sort of vibe.. this is the spot for you.  Their Happy Hour is from 4-8 pm Monday through Friday and they have beer, wine, rail drinks and margaritas for all under $5!  They also have a $5 food menu which isn’t too shabby either.  (hummus, nachos and more!).  The Front Page has both indoor and outdoor seating, as well as two very large bars!

Ping Pong Dim Sum Dupont (Dupont)
Everything is $5!  I repeat, everything is $5!!  Ping Pong has a great Happy Hour menu that has some super fun- Asian inspired drinks (Ping Pong Bubble, Lychee and Rose Maritini, you get the point) as well as dumplings and other dim sum goodies for $5.  This is also a great place for a birthday Happy Hour or just if you are craving some dim sum (aka me always).

Pearl Dive (14th Street)
This is a personal favorite of mine, especially if you like going the oyster and sparkling wine route for Happy Hour.  Their Happy Hour runs from 4-7pm Monday through Friday featuring $7 martinis, $5 glasses of wine and half priced beer.  They also do some great food, such as 2 for 1 oysters, as well as a shrimp or oyster po boy and mussels for under $10.  Peal Dive’s Happy Hour is in the bar area only, which includes outside seating.

Best Drinks:

Bar Pilar (14th Street)
I love Bar Pilar!  Their fun cocktail list is always changing and they a great beer selection.  The bar/restaurant itself is sea/nautical themed with a lot of wood accents.  There are two bars (upstairs and downstairs) so it is generally pretty easy to snag a spot.  They also make great cocktail slushies (that are amazing) such as a Pimm’s Cup Slush and much more!

Denson (Chinatown)
The Denson is great if you are into the whole speakeasy/underground sort of place and typically go for classic and quality cocktails. This place comes fully equipped with leather booth seats and stools, a swanky bar, tile floor and dark lighting.  I highly recommend the Mint Julep!

Church Key (14th Street)
Church Key is located above Birch & Barley and is a super cool space with a great drink and snack selection (can you say Brat Burger?!).  They have a great bottle and draft list on top of a great selection of alcohol.

For a Good Time:

Dodge City (U Street)
You can’t miss dodge city as you are walking down U street on a night out… because the rap and hip hop music is blaring out of the door/windows.  This place never disappoints.

Sign of the Whale (Dupont)
As a DC college student this place will probably rock your world.  Thursday nights at Sign were a religion for my friends and I senior year, when they would do their Throw Back Thursday music nights.  Sign is always a good and cheap time because they play great music and you can sign up to win free happy hours (I think I won about 5 this year alone) where you drink for free, your friends get $3 rail drinks and if you bring over 10 people you get a bottle of bubbly!  Plus they have a photobooth..

Cool Venues:

Brixton (U Street)
This is fun place to start a night out or if you are looking for a bar that has a combo of normal bar (1st floor), a bit of dancing (2nd floor) and a roof (3rd floor).  This place is a great place for a birthday or if you are in the mood to dress up a bit more than lets say… Sign of the Whale of Dodge City.

Roofers Union (Adams Morgan)
If you like roofs and beer this is an ideal place for you!  I like this place (personally) for a chill night or to start off a night in Adams Morgan.  They also often have live music which is always a plus!

Lost Society (U Street/ 14th)
I think Lost Society is a ton of fun, but only if you like drinking and standing around with your friends (not looking to dance).  They have good drinks, a cool place and roof as well as mellow House Music.  (Which can be very appreciated some nights).

And as they say here in DC
~work hard, play hard ~
