When you think of Maryland what type of food comes to mind? If you don’t say crabs, we can’t be friends. Sorry. Anyways, when we road tripped to Annapolis a few weekends back, we couldn’t NOT get crabs. After doing a bit of research and asking around, we decided (excitedly) on Cantler’s Riverside Inn and boy was it a great call.
Cantler’s if tucked away on a river bend not so close to downtown- but not so far out of the way. If you are in and around Annapolis this place is not to be missed. They have a huge deck and large picnic tables for communal eating.
While they don’t take reservations, the wait wasn’t so bad for an earlier dinner on a Sunday evening. They do meals, a la cart and platters of every type of seafood you could possibly dream of. But I would say the blue crabs are not to be missed- it is one of those places they just dump the Old Bay covered crab on your table and you get to crackin’.
Since there were four of us, we opted to split a shrimp and crab platter, some softshell crab, hush puppies, tater tots and fried clams.
The stars of the show were absolutely the crab- every style, the peel and eat shrimp and the hush puppies.
This meal was such a treat and Eastern Shore classic. Definitely don’t miss Cantler’s next time you are in the Annapolis area!
