Eating DC: Bar Charley

Bar Charley has to be one of my favorite happy hour options in DC.  The atmosphere/ location is perfect and their happy hour deals are actually deals.  (What a concept).  Bar Charley reminds me of a sophisticated Tiki Bar- with island inspired drinks, Asian and Pacific fused food and a cool, mature environment.

I have only ever been for happy hour, but both times, I have been, I have loved it.  They have a bar up front, some table seating inside and then some covered patio seating outside in the back.  Bar Charley is perfect for the Dupont/ Farragut work crowd that wants to get away from their normal Dupont Circle happy hour spots.

I really love that their happy hour drink menus includes signature cocktails rather than beer and rail drinks and that their food menu goes beyond the normal happy hour nibbles.

When I went the other day, my four friends and I got a variety of drinks (daiquiris, Moscow mules and a drink called a Suffering Bastard) and split two orders of wings and some Catalan fries (amazing).  It was the perfect start to happy hour season in DC!

Overall, Bar Charley is a hidden gem of the 18th Street neighborhood and it is definitely worth stopping in for a Classic Daiquiri and some chicken wings!
